Untreated wastewater discharge into Lake Zorinsky closes trail

Omaha Public Works shut-down a section of the Zorinsky Lake trail in southwest Omaha Wednesday to conduct emergency repairs on a sewer line.The trail section under the 168th Street bridge likely will be closed through Tuesday, July 20th, 2021.City officials said the sanitary sewer issue sent untreated wastewater into Lake Zorinsky from sometime on July 13th until 2:25 p.m. on July 14th. Viewer Jeff Hogue took photos of the leak on Tuesday afternoon.Normal activities including boating and kayaking are not impacted by the incident according to the city, but officials advised personal discretion until water quality tests can be completed. They discouraged allowing pets into the lake water.Public Works said trail users east of the bridge will be able to use the trail and walkway on the east side of 168th to complete a loop around the lake.Trail users on the west side of 168th will not be able to access the loop.
