Ahmedabad: A doctor, an advocate, and a photographer were arrested by Anand police on Sunday for raping a woman multiple times on several instances and circulating private photos and videos of the victim.

Two of the accused, as per police reports, have been identified as residents of Anand – Sandeep Kumar Chandrashekhar, a photographer by profession; and Dr Mehul Prajapati, a physician from Borsad town. The third accused, Pradyumansinh Gohil, a resident of Anand, is an advocate by profession. All three were arrested on the basis of a complaint lodged by a middle-aged woman a week ago.

The complaint stated that the three accused drew up a conspiracy to rape the woman on multiple instances in the past one-and-a-half years. They would forcibly click private pictures and threaten to leak them. The victim has filed an FIR at the cyber crime police station in Anand.

A senior officer of the cybercrime police station said, “The woman became friends with Sandeep Kumar four years ago and they both had a fight over some issue around one-and-a-half years ago when he started demanding money from her. The woman then stopped communicating with him,” as quoted by the Indian Express.

They added that around this time, advocate Pradyuman Gohil began calling her on the pretext of looking for an employee to hire. The woman showed interest in getting a job, for which she began talking to Gohil and revealed that Sandeep had been harassing her. A conference call then occurred between the three in which Gohil asked Sandeep not to harass the victim anymore for money.

The advocate later called the woman to a hotel on claims that he had given money to Sandeep in order to help her. There, he allegedly raped her, taking intimate photos and videos of the victim. Some days later, he again tried to call the woman to a hotel and when she resisted, he threatened to release her pictures and videos. She gave in and met him, where he repeated the same offense.

The victim’s complaint also revealed that while the advocate was raping her, Sandeep was hiding in the bathroom of the hotel room and allegedly clicked pictures and took videos of her as well. He also went on to rape her on several instances, threatening to leak the visuals.

Upon falling sick, the woman went to a physician named Dr Mehul Prajapati, who also began calling her on her number. She blocked his number when the doctor began using another number to send her pictures and videos clicked by the other two accused in order to threaten her, which led to him also forcing himself upon her multiple times after.

The three accused have been booked under the Indian Penal Code sections 367 (2) N for committing rape on a woman on multiple instances and 354b for assault on a woman, along with sections of the Information Technology Amendment Act.
