Mrboss, 4 hours agoHdr+ is now behind apples smart hdr, and other chinese phones hdr implementations. In extreme … moreAlso note that some companies use machine learning for noise reduction. This could lead to less noisy results, but this will also lead to results that don’t show the truth as machine learning only guesses.
It is true that there is smartphone main camera hardware that captures more than three times as much light per time as the Pixel 5. Better hardware will definitely help regarding noise, but one of the main issues are Google’s algorithms since the Pixel 3 (Night Sight takes too long and produces blurry photos, no HDR+ enhanced mode since Pixel 4, noise reduction got more aggressive, Pixel 5 has more blown out highlights than Pixel 3 in HDR+ enhanced mode, Pixel 3 suffers from dead pixels when you zoom, worse white balance than Google Nexus 5x, white balance presets have been removed, terrible machine learning zoom, etc)
Google needs to seriously improve its camera hardware. Pixels look as ugly as ever, and most hardware is mediocre on its phones. But its camera sensors need a complete and absolute overhaul. Please stop the same 12MP sensors from generations ago. I am also surprised that google hadn’t worked on the CFA to improve detail and sharpness, substantially.
Who cares about daylight shots in 2021, every 100$ phone can take good shots in good lighting nowadays
Mrboss, 4 hours agoHdr+ is now behind apples smart hdr, and other chinese phones hdr implementations. In extreme … moreIt is correct that Google’s Night Sight can take a long time. I have measured that the Pixel 3a and Pixel 5 take up to approximately 6.5 or 7 seconds in Night Sight mode. It is also correct that Google’s Night Sight often leads to blurry photos (tested with Pixel 3a) because Google uses an exposure time of up to 1s (!) per frame. This often makes it necessary to take the photo again, so you need to hold still again for 6-7 seconds. Often you can only get sharp results when you stop breathing. That’s terrible.
Though, Google used to have a fast Night Sight mode. It is the HDR+ enhanced mode of the Pixel 3a. It’s basically exactly the same thing as Night Sight, but it usually takes up to 2.5 seconds (instead of up to 7) and produces nearly always sharp results due to a maximum exposure time of 1/5s per frame. HDR+ enhanced usually produces better low light results than Night Sight. Only in a completely dark room Night Sight is better (only slightly better, if you edit the HDR+ enhanced raw file). It is a shame that Pixel 4/5 don’t have HDR+ enhanced.
Also note that as far as I know, the iPhone 12 Pro Max night mode doesn’t take longer than 1 second as far as I know.
Still the best HDR algorithm. Takes pants off of everyone else’s camera, especially Apple’s and Samsung’s.
Why and how does it happen accidentally??
It is a STUNT!!
And then they say
‘Ooppss!! It happened accidentally.’
Nick Tegrataker, 3 hours agoHow about you come back here when Pixel stops taking consistently noisy photos and purely rely… moreThe Google Nexus 5x in HDR+ On mode (not the default mode) still takes one of the best daylight photos, possibly still the best daylight camera on the market (no matter whether objects move). The Nexus 5x usually merges 8 raw files for each photo, which theoretically leads to a base Iso noise performance of a 4/3″ type sensor (apart from the shadows). But it isn’t just the daylight noise performance.
The Nexus jpgs have fantastic colors, the Pixel 3a can have more blown out highlights and has a much worse white balance than the Nexus. Nexus 5x sunsets have extremely realistic colors.
The Nexus also has a very sharp lens and its noise reduction looks neither aggressive nor artificial in good/average light conditions (noise reduction of Pixel 5 or Pixel 3 can be much more aggressive and artificial in good/average light conditions).
MATE 30 PRO, 2 hours agoThe best camera phones in the world are the Huawei Mate 40 Pro+ series …
Then the other … moreMate 40 takes inconsistent photos. Huawei cameras are overrated when compared to every other brand (except oneplus which are overhyped by the company itself).
accidentally lol , just to create the hype in the market doing these bullshit
Kingslayer, 2 hours agoPeople here bash Apple and Google all the time and praise Sony and Xiaomi for some reason. The… more– Iphone costs more than other phones, despite being worse. The same device sold in USA for $800 can be over $1300 in other locations. But some people use the software updates to justify price. Apple gives longer software support because they sell old iphones for at least 2 -3 years. They still make and sell Xr.
– Pixel every year come with issues. Every year they make phone worse than previous. Pixel 5 is worse than Pixel 4 except battery endurance. Pixel 5 is much inferior to other 2018 flagships.
It is pretty stupid few tech sites that demand other brands to price their best phones about 15-20% cheaper than iphone , no matter how better they are.
Be sure 13 Pro Max is gonna be inferior to all current android phones from 2021 that cost over $1000.
SoundP, 2 hours agoNope, the Pixel software experience, without bloat, is the best in Android phones. The software experience is quite bad. They release updates, which suddenly remove features you paid for. For example, white balance camera presets of Pixel phones were removed after an update.
Their updates also produce new bugs all the time.
Poor fanboys will just argue over meaningless debates to make them feel better about their purchases. But in reality, nobody cares what these fanboys like. They’re still teenagers or in their 20s with no friends or girlfriend. So they will argue over the most meaningless stuff online… LMAO!
Hate iPhone. Hate Pixel. Hate Samsung. Hate LG. Hate Sony. Hate HTC (I really do). Hate Asus (I really do). Hate any Chinese brand. Nobody cares. Just use your phone and stop bothering others by trashing the other competitors.
People here bash Apple and Google all the time and praise Sony and Xiaomi for some reason. The former, I don’t get unless they’re just PlayStation fanboys.
LG G5 & LG V20: 2017-2018
Essential Phone: 2018-2019
Google Pixel 3: 2019-2021
Apple iPhone 12 mini: 2021-2023?
I made a decision to just go back and forth with Android and iOS Every 2 to 2.5 years, I will switch. So I only get one new iPhone every 5 years. Same with Android. These phones can last a really long time. Just take care of it by putting it in a case and change the battery every few years.
I really don’t have a preference. I use Android for the customization but need iOS for iMessage and my Apple Watch.
The best camera phones in the world are the Huawei Mate 40 Pro+ series …
Then the other brands.
Anonymous, 2 hours agoCameras are the only things Pixels have going for them.Nope, the Pixel software experience, without bloat, is the best in Android phones.
“Accidentally” on purposes.
Just like other companies, “do not leak any info” but take a photo of it instead. Some send it to the content creators to be leaked.
You see….Nothing is accidental..Everything is intentional and to create a hype
