A mid-life update to Volkswagen Polo will be revealed on Thursday, with changes set to be largely cosmetic in nature.
UPDATE, 21 April 2021: The 2022 Volkswagen Polo has leaked, just a day ahead of its official reveal.
The images, from Korea’s Autospy, confirm the small Volkswagen hatch will feature the car maker’s latest design language, with a full-width LED daytime-running light at the front, bookended with L-shaped accents.
The images also show the Polo wearing filled-in silver ‘R’ badging – slightly different to those seen on the R-Line logo, which features a silver outline –though the Golf R Line-inspired wheels and relatively tall ride height suggests this isn’t the high-performance Polo R we were hoping for.
The Polo R has been an on-again, off-again project for Volkswagen for the past decade – with the company even going as far as creating prototypes fitted with the high-powered 2.0-litre turbo engine and all-wheel drive.

20 April 2021: The facelifted 2022 Volkswagen Polo will be unveiled globally on 22 April – two days from now – ahead of an expected Australian arrival slated for the first quarter of 2022 (January to March inclusive).
A teaser image released alongside the announcement provides a glimpse at the updated Polo’s front end, with the facelifted city car to gain revised LED headlights and a new grille, with an LED daytime-running light strip running across its width, as per the Golf, Arteon and other recent Volkswagen models.
Spy photos confirm elongated tail-lights and new lower bumper designs will feature at the rear, while it’s likely the interior will benefit from a handful of upgrades, including a new touch-based climate control panel, and updated infotainment software.
Few changes are expected to the engine line-up for Australia, with the 70kW/170Nm and 85kW/200Nm 1.0-litre turbo three-cylinder, and 147kW/320Nm 2.0-litre turbo four-cylinder mills likely to carry over locally.
The 2022 Volkswagen Polo will be unveiled in full on 22 April 2021, at 7pm AEST.
Exact timing and pricing for the updated Polo is yet to be officially confirmed, however CarAdvice understands the core range will begin rolling into local showrooms early next year.
